Over the hill…yet somewhere to go
Adie Ord, a Greater Manchester fireman, and due to retire this year, decided to undergo an introductory programme especially designed for technical and vocational experts, leading to a license to teach and an award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS). Adie had signed up with Essential Recruitment Services with a view to building up opportunities for when he retires in the summer of this year.
Essential Learning Company (sister company to Essential Recruitment) from Marple, Stockport, have been working with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) on a project called ‘Experience Counts’, aimed at the over 50’s having their skills recognised and gaining a teaching qualification quicker than normal routes allow, and Director Sharon Elliott recognised Adie as being an ideal candidate for the course.
Delighted with the response to enrollments on the course so far,
Adie says, "I still have lots to offer. I’m very happy in my work and it’s very rewarding. I’m not ready to lie down yet. Essential Recruitment Services have said that they will hire me to deliver training courses, and I feel the PTLLS course has given me extra confidence to deliver in a more professional and knowledgeable way. It’s brilliant”.
